Information systems research
Information systems research undertaken in the ISOS research centre is renowned for its "Salford School of Thought". The Salford School of Thought is differentiated from others in the field of information systems research in that it advocates critical and interpretive research approaches. One of the key arguments advocated by the ISOS research centre members is the important role of people and their individual stories in relation to the way that technology is used in organisations and society.
The information systems research in the Salford Business School is recognised world wide. For example, it is noted in the Venkatesh Information Systems Research Ranking based on the Association of Information Systems Senior Scholars' Basket of Journals, which places ISOS as 11th in the world. Current members of the group, nurtured within the research culture of past years, are publishing in the same top 8 journals, with a view to maintaining this ranking. Additionally, the contribution of ISOS research centre members is documented in a number of books on research methods and is acknowledged by authors such as Briony Oates, see for example: Oates, B. J. (2006). Researching Information Systems and Computing. London: Sage Publications.
